Materials like carbon (CFRP) are processed multi-dimensionally

Waterjet cutting systems by gKteso cut carbon efficiently and precisely

Carbon (CFRP) is one of the new, highly valued materials in industry. The carbon fiber-reinforced plastic has been applied in aviation and Formula 1 for quite some time. Also the automotive industry has now discovered this high quality material for itself. In order to process this robust and equally ultra-light material, automated procedures, as in water jet cutting systems by gKteso, are suitable.

Carbon (CFRP) in the automotive industry

In the context of ever more comfortably equipped vehicles by means of many innovative materials, the weight of cars has increased at the same time. This is completely at odds with the simultaneous demand of the market for low-consumption vehicles with a low Co2 emission. The recommended solution for this dilemma is the installation of carbon (CFRP). Up to date, aircraft manufacturing has been requiring XXL standards. However, the large work pieces need to be high-precision installed in the aircrafts. The permissible deviation tolerance may only be 0.2 mm. The McKinsey Business Institute assumes that by 2030 the automotive industry will be main consumer of this material (CFRP), displacing the aviation industry from the number one position.

Carbon (CFRP) is half as heavy as steel

This versatile material has a great lightweight construction potential. Carbon (CFRP) is therefore also interesting for electric cars because the ultra-light material has a positive impact on the range of E-Mobiles. Carbon (CFRP) weighs only a quarter as much as steel, and yet offers the same crash safety, and that, without rusting. Also compared to other materials, such as aluminum, CFRP is even 30 percent lighter. Fundamental disadvantage: Its price.

Water jet cutting systems cut complex work pieces made of carbon

Mechanical engineers are interested in the possibilities of the lightweight design with carboniferous material as well, because of the fact that the machine is supposed to produce more, yet without any additional drives. All components, either for aircrafts, cars or machines, need to be cut. The often three-dimensionally cast components require clean edges. Here in particular waterjet cutting systems by gKteso are suitable because, due to their multi-axial feature, they carry out even sophisticated cutting patterns. The systems can also be integrated in production lines and therefore represent an essential support for delivering efficient and highly professional production results to various industries in processing carboniferous and other materials.
