The most powerful laser in the world delivers 2 Petawatts

Researchers in Japan have managed to make the most powerful laser in the world. In the research centre at Osaka University, the laser concentrated 1000 times Earth’s total power consumption – but only for a picosecond, in other words one billionth of a second. Another interesting fact about lasers is that a system around 100 metres in length had to be built to generate the extremely powerful energy beam.

The smallest laser in the world – a bead of gold measuring just 14 millionths of a millimetre

Interesting facts about lasers – the smallest laser in the world was built in America. A team of researchers in Norfolk created the miniature laser based on a bead of gold measuring just 14 millionths of a millimetre. Filigree light sources like the miniature laser could be used in optical circuits in the future. The bead of gold was surrounded by a thin layer of sodium silicate by the researchers for the test. The electrons on the surface were then made to oscillate collectively. This excited another thin film of silly serum oxide which contained a dye that gave off green light pulses with a wavelength of 531 nanometres. The main interesting point about lasers is that they cannot be built to be smaller than half the wavelength of the emitted light – which is around 200 nanometres. Since, however, no light waves were amplified inside the small gold bead and instead the electrons on the surface were amplified, this made it possible to build the miniature laser in such a tiny size.

The most powerful show laser in the world comes from Germany
– interesting facts about lasers for show purposes

Would you like to know some more interesting facts about lasers? Here’s one: The most powerful show laser in the world comes from Germany, It was manufactured for a customer in Saudi Arabia. In this case the laser is designed to illuminate the sky above a tower block, shining up to 150 km into the night. Interesting facts about lasers for comparison: Lasers with a rating of 4 to 5 W are used for light shows in discotheques. Between 20 and 30 W are used for open-air shows. The new superlaser delivers a capacity of 1600 W. The airspace around the test area had to be closed to enable the company to test the laser in Germany.
